I was just wondering...apparently the person caught it in Columbia if that helps.

Schnappscity, welcome to the forum

It's kind of an ale-looking fish to me, some species deriving from that anyway. I will look it up and let you know. Maybe there are other members who have seen it...

stergeon, roe havested for caviar in russia.
can get to 500+ lbs. in the Columbia and other western rivers. We have a smaller species here in Tampa bay and in the Swanee River.

It is a white sturgeon, and it's very likely too small to keep on the Columbia. And he definitely should not be holding it by its gill - as it seems he may be - when it's going to be released. Hi, I've neither caught or seen a Sturgeon here in Australia,as they are in the Northern Hemisphere,also I don't know whether anyone on the forum has seen a picture going around,it actually was posted on a site over here,with several guys around huge Sturgeon which was 1100lbs.
