Hi all. I was wondering if anyone could give me some hints as to where I might catch some trout in the Butte County area.

I just started fishing about 6 months ago and started with Bass, but now I'd like to catch some trout.

I've been thinking of trying the Feather River, West Branch, which I think I can find fairly easily.

Any hints as to where I aught to go would be appreciated guys.

Thanks.

Bait selection would be a nice tip too...

Oah, I'm in California by the way.

Well, I know of a few places. I'm told that one can fish for trout in Desabla Reservoir, Paradise Lake, and maybe even Oroville Lake. I was just hoping maybe someone knew of a good spot on the West Branch of the Feather River. I guess people are catching Steelhead there right now, which sounds like a blast, but I have no clue to what part of the river they are going.

Bassin' is still good right now, just wanting to branch out.

You can catch small planter steelhead in the Sacramento River Slough about a quarter mile North of Scotties in January, you can catch trout in Butte Creek(Honey Run) from Nov 15 to spring sometime. In the spring, summer, and fall the best bet is probably along HWY 32 on Deer Creek, they plant Wednesdays once a month. The feather river you will want to go along HWY 70 to the ophir rd turnoff and go right and then left. Follow it along until you find a dirt road to the right that goes into a fenced wilderness area, you can catch trout along the feather river. DeSablo reservoir is a very small planter PG&E pond stocked with small trout and overfished by the people of Paradise. If you follow the Skyway way up past INskip there is Philbrook Lake and also the High lakes. Beleieve it or not fishing is also legal in Bidwell Park, you have to fish below Bear Hole and above lower park. Butte County has a lot of mediocre trout fishing, you're best bet is up around Redding or go to Lake Almanor at the Hamilton Branch.

Oh and my directions to the feather river is where you can catch steelhead. Use flies, nightcrawlers, or spinners. I prefer a big silver Mepps
