I would start with white or chartreuse spinner baits . If you are experienced with soft plastic baits then by all means throw them too. But start with the spinnerbaits and you will catch fish.

Once learning a live nightcrawler technique, I really recommend the same technique with the light line and exposed hook until confidence in the plastic is achieved. Heavier gear and line will be needed to graduate to texas rigging.

We agree, it's an exceptional lure for beginners and experts alike. Plus, we support the purchase of these lures because our good friend dave maryanov is a lure engineer at the company that makes beetle-spins.

We agree completely if you have the mobility of a boat, but often from a pond the only available technique is a breakoff. Thus the suggestion to use low cost terminal stuff.

Refreshing although sometimes conflicting points of view can be used to teach or learn. Good stuff, Jim.

The art of fishing is fun for some, work for others. It can be cheap or expensive, relaxing or nerve-wracking. It's as diverse as the universe in the people who fish, the ways they fish, and the gear they fish with. The fish know this and show their disdain by refusing to bite. They're equally reckless at times and hit anything in sight or sound. The true art of fishing is expressed in the angler's sigh of appreciation for that moment of extreme gratification granted by the big one that got away.
