shakespeare model no. 1810dk

im new to the forum and found this site while trying to get some imfo on a shakespeare model no. 1810dk,this is the closed face spinning reel that releases the line by back cranking the handle,playing with reel it seems it was not designed for a conventional bait casting rod and seems to work better on a fly rod with the rod underneath i collect mostly 60's-70's bait casters and some early open face spinning reels,i've never used many closed faced reels or had much interest in them but this was given to me by a friend and its kinda got me interested, any help would be appreciated

You're right. The reel was used on fly rods and on the conventional spinning rods of the era. Most spinning rods then used tension rings to fasten the reels to the rod so you could mount the reels at different locations on the handle. Hope this helped.

thanks for the info,its actually a pretty nice outfit with the fly rod however i think i'll look for a conventional rod for it from that era and hang it on the wall,we live on the waccamaw river in s.c.which has its share of 4 foot gar and 60 pound plus catfish,i made a few casts with the fly rod and thought it could get interesting if i was to hook something!!! let me know what got i may be interested in! thanks This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
