Hello y'all, I'm pt from the netherlands but I moved to Oslo, Norway with my wife. I love to fish over here, cause it's in "real" nature,( in the Netherlands it's almost all "fake". I want to start fly fishing and I'm going to a course from Henrik Mortensen(Scierra) on the 2nd of june. I can't wait. I only hope He speaks a bit off english as my danish is not so good. Anyway, I've been looking arround for some decent beginners gear and came up with this option: shimano biocraft #5 with the biocraft large arbour reel for about $450=,lines are included but I dont know wich. Is this any good? Also how important is rod action for a beginner? slow, fast, topflex, bottomflex or what? I'm going to fish for trout but also some seetrout in the fjords. (There were some other options from sage and scierra but they are a bit more expensive.)
ha det bra from Oslo....

Hallo PT uit Nederland, welkom hier en ik hoop dat je het naar je zin zult hebben op het forum
(I'm originally Dutch as well )

Everything is fake in the Netherlands? How do you mean? Sea-fishing = sea-fishing and what about the IJsselmeer?

(Am away from the Netherlands already for a long time so have no clue really )

Hoi Danube,
I mean that most of the "nature" is man made. Here in Oslo if you go to the islands in the Oslo fjord it's all rocks and no pavement. It's very different. I love it! I found some beginner info, but I still don't know what a good rod action is. I Also found some other deals on the fmtc web site. Cortland, grey and vision sets, but I would have to buy online. I can't wait, 1 more week to go.....

Well, Norway is known for its stunning nature so it seems you have chosen well

Not a terrible experienced fisherman myself I do know however that a fast rod action is preferable for beginners since it's easier and more accurate when cast longer distances

Good luck !

Hello y'all
well... it's done. I've done the lesson, I've bought the stuff,so now we start fishing right? yeah I don't think so... This is not easy! If I had started with a fly I would have ripped my ears off, 19 times! so I'll just use the "yarn" fly for now. It's a lot of fun though, and I bought some nice stuff: the Scierra IC3 # 6/7 + the Scierra EDP reel.I'm happy! Now I hope I can find the touch soon, and go for some real trout! Without piercing my ears, or slashing my throat.

All set to go... I see.
Good luck Pttroe. Do you have to take time off to do this, or is it all pretty close by?

he
I got a park at about 5 min. from my house wich is pretty quiet during week days. It also has some slow flowing water and mainly gras. It's perfect... So I should be able to get better soon. I still want to make too big a movements. And I'm looking for the timing and the right "accelleration". specially when to pull and let go of the line with my left hand on the forward cast. It's a lot of fun though, and I can't wait to do some real fishing.
Does anybody have some hook in your ear stories? does it happen a lot or just in the beginning?
Ok gotta go, maybe I can get some practice in tomorrow

Pttroe, sounds like a good 'training grounds' to me

Also, I can imagine your longing for 'da real thing' - but I'm sure this exercising only keeps you from serious disappointments later on since you have the basics (onder de knie)
