I'll be going up to Colegrove's Eagle lake Lodge in Ontario, Canada, later this month (June 22) and was wondering if any of you have experiences to share regarding fishing this lake in general and/or about the lodge in particular. We will be there 5 days. Is the smallmouth bass season open by then? I would really like to try a little fly fishing for these fish, and also wouldn't mind hooking up to a big northern pike with my 8 weight. I enjoy fishing with _all_ types of gear, so any relevant info about this lake and lodge would be much appreciated. Cheers, and tight lines,

Hi Mark, unfortunately you will not be able to fish for bass until June 27. Bass season opens at 12:00am that Saturday. If you go to my website you can download the 1998 Ontario Fishing regs. If you are planning to be at the lodge till after the 27 you should have a blast. Expect fish to be in deeper waters as we are way ahead of schedule this year. You might also want to put a post up on my message board to see if anyone can give you a few hot spots. Good luck!!!!!

We went to Eagle Lake about 10 years ago in early June for a week and didn't do too well I'm sorry to say. We had problems with the size of the water ; Eagle Lake is HUGE. It was our first time there, and we didn't hire a guide, which probably didn't help.
The problem was finding the fish on a lake of this size. I did find a spot where the big walleyes were, and I caught a 4.5 lb and missed a couple other big ones. There was another party from another resort that found the big walleyes and were 'slaughtering' them. It was on a rock bar next to deep water.
There are some really huge Muskies in Eagle Lake, if you're interested.
Good Luck.
