Just wanted to let all know that I have a Northern Adirondack Fishing Report posted on my website that I update nearly on a daily basis. The Adirondacks in Upstate NY has some of the best trout fishing in the world and I know some great streams, ponds and lakes where anyone visiting or lucky enough to live here should try. I started the fishing report to help fishermen make the most important decision of the day, "Where do I go?" With gas prices these days...that decision is very important.

I have a lake home in the Adirondacks. Been lake fishing for Lakers and had some success. This Fall finally figured how to catch the Landlock Salmon on Grey Ghost streamer. Have you had any luck with landlocks? Love the Adirondacks and want to explore its Trout fishing more thoroughly. Plan to do a fly in trip for Brookies in the Spring out of Indian Lake. Stay warm I hear its getting quite cold up there. I'll see be up there this weekend!

Be well,

Jake

Hi Jake, What lake do you live on? Weather is very unsettled...20 below on Monday morning but mid 40's when woke up Wednesday morning. I would love to hear more about the Brook Trout trip you have planned for Spring. I admire those landlocks and beg the DEC to stock them in my home lake. I would have to say that "ice out" is the best time to catch them, but they are such an aggressive fish, that they can be caught nearly all year long. If the water becomes too warm, they can be tough to get. Can't say that the Grey Ghost would be my favorite streamer though. I would love to go laker fishing with you sometime. Did you hear that someone caught a 38 lb lake trout in Moose Pond? If you get a chance to ice fish for landlocks, best to put your live minnow just under the ice...I have actually caught them with their dorsal fin nearly worn off from scraping the ice. I like to go after splake in the winter though...only because I don't seem to be able to catch them in open water. You can see some of my photos at http://bestrainbowtroutphotos.com. Hope to hear from you and enjoy the weekend...Noreaster is suppose to hit here tonight.

Peace....and quiet,
Brian

Brian,

I saw and read the article on your Rainbow Trout in the Adirondack Life magazine. Absolutely facinating!!!! My home is on Piseco Lake just South West of Speculator, NY. I had been trying to find a good guide in the Adirondacks for a couple of years now. I finally hooked up with Jim Zullo of Indian Lake. He is a retired school teacher who coaches basketball and guides. He seems to have a substancial amount of knowledge on fishing in his area of the Adirondacks. He told me that there are lots of Brook Trout ponds throughout the area. Most people who hire him do not wish to hike in. They are lazy. I am the opposite. I love to get into the great outdoors to hike , fish and enjoy the overall magnificence of it all. If you are interested I am sure we can fit you in on that Brook Trout trip. The group that would fly us in are out of Long Lake. Zullo says they are very reasonably priced. They would pick us up by plane and fly us in for a night of camping and full day of fishing. They caught a 36 inch 28lb laker in Piseco last year jigging copper. I use down riggers and have caught lakers but mostly 15 to 20 inch class. I still have to educate myself a little further on the proper fishing techniques for the Lakers and Salmon. But I must admit that that is the enjoyment of it...learning. Be glad to have you along for some Laker fishing come Spring. Where are you located in the Adirondacks? Stay warm and be well!! You can e-mail me directly at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it . Thats my business e-mail.

I want to contact you regarding Pike , salmon and fishing the ADirondecks.
My son is up in Potsdam. I fished bass years ago , from a canoe with ultra light and homemade poppers. Now I am a surf fisherman hunting night time striped bass on some desolate beaches of the east end of LI with different home made plugs.
I want to hook up with my son - camp /cabin and fish this early spring. No fly fishing I am afraid. The plan continues with rent or buy a used canoe..I know there are guides but money is tough and I really want to be by ourselfs and not see a sole. I have a zillion questions regarding, the how what where and whens.... I am intrigued by the thought of Pike, Muskie and even Salmon but think that is impossible.. brucelieb@gmail,com
