New to fly fishing, and I can't seem to keep my flies afloat for very long. they seem to sink just as soon as I have cast them - what can I do to avoid this?

Hi.
There could be a couple of reasons, make sure you are using Dry Flies which are designed to Float, make sure they are not weighted, you can also apply a small ammount of Fly Floatant to your finger Tips & lightly rub it into the Fly,If you are using Deer Hair Flies they can be revitalised by holding them over Steam from a Kettle.
Also if you are tying your own Flies make sure you make them sparse & out of materials which float, are you using the correct line?
Good Luck & Good Fishing.
