Hello all

I've been trying to find a way to contact the site admin to ask this question but can't seem to find any contact info. So I'll just post and if the admin wants to remove the thread, I understand.

One thing I'll make clear first is that this is not a business or website promotion, and all participation is completely voluntary.

I've been lurking on the site for a while and recently became a member. I'm putting together an online fly fishing "E-zine" and am looking for volunteers to contribute articles. I am a member of many fly fishing sites from across the country and already have volunteers from some of them. You can write about ANYTHING related to fly fishing(trip reports, fly patterns, saltwater, etc). I'm trying to make it as visually stimulating as it will be verbally stimulating, so accompanying photos are appreciated.

I can't pay for articles since this isn't a business and I don't make any money off of it. I have a passion for fly fishing, and I'm simply trying to put something together that'll have informative material and just be a fun read. However, all contributors will be given credit whether you have a website, guide service, or anything like that to promote. This will in no way take away from participation in the forums since I'm only using submissions from probably a maximum of 2 members from each participating site, once every 2 months.

Fishingtalks.com can also participate by adding a download link to the "E-zine" which will have a new issue about once every 2 months depending on participation. Of course, all downloads will be free to those wanting to read it. The format will be that of a simple Ebook.

If anyone is interrested or wants more details, please email me at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

Again, this is not a money generating business or website, it's just a way to get some interresting content from all over the country in one place for everyone to check out.

I apologize to the admin if this is not something that they'd allow to be posted, but I tried to find contact info to ask the admin first, but I could't find anything. I understand if this is removed.

Thanks
Steve

Hmmm...been thinking about it for a few minutes now....

Here's a recap of one of my more memorable and fairly recent outings.....

It was about a week and a half before Christmas and we'd been having some unseasonably mild weather here in New Jersey.

I jumped on the computer to get a weather report for the upcoming weekend. To my amazement, the forecast called for clouds and temps approaching 70 DEGREES on Saturday!!! After some reconfiguring of my weekend duties, I had about a 3 hour block of time in the middle of the day to fish a little known wild rainbow stream about 45 minutes from NYC.

My mission: catch a trophy NJ wild rainbow on a dry fly in December

Note: in NJ I classify a trophy wild 'bow to be anything greater than 16"(and this stream just happens to have a few approaching that size)

After hurrying my morning chores, I headed for this hidden gem. I arrived just after 2pm to a stream that was flowing a bit higher than I expected. Nevertheless, I began throwing a #14 brown caddis to the head of one of the few longer pools on the stream. Not long after this I realized the fish probably weren't looking up despite the warmer temps and small hatch of brown caddis. Time to change tactics.

I tied on a #12 black microbugger. First drift through, I felt a bump, but no take. Bump on the first drift = good news. In the next hour or so, I caught and released about a dozen small wild rainbows.

Then I came upon my favorite pool in the stream. There is a huge rock on the left bank that has an undercut that is probably more than 4' deep, with the rest of the pool being about 2.5-3'. I KNOW bruisers live there, but there is a submerged branch under there that has claimed many of my flies. I began methodically covering the pool from right to left. I threw a cast to the head of the pool, just off the edge of the undercut. A few seconds into the drift and WHAM! I finally feel a tug that's got some weight behind it, and eventually bring to hand a beautiful cookie cutter 'bow of about 13". It wasn't the trophy I was looking for, but absolutely made my day.

I fished for another hour and enjoyed catching many more small fish before I ended my day. As the sun was setting over the ridge on my walk out, I looked back on the stream and knew this would be a day that I wouldn't forget in a long time.

Stream shot taken with my camera phone:
