I just bought a Seaview 1200 fish finder and want to install it on our 20ft pontoon boat. Will the transducer work well if installed on the aluminum transom approx. 2ft in front of the motor? I was thinking that closer to the middle of the boat would be good location, but I'm not sure. Can anyone give me some advice?

Thank you (in advance)

Brenda

That's as good a place as any, imho. But if you're going after schooling fish such as white bass, I would make the transducer 'Portable' if I couldn't afford a second one for the trolling motor. My trick was to mount the trolling motor on the bow and the transducer was on an extension arm directly above the motor so that it pointed at an angle (with a 22 degree cone this is the way to go) and movement of the trolling motor would send the sound in the direction it was pointed. Caught lots of fish that way because I was able to follow the school after they sounded. Other boats had to 'guess' because their transducers were not directional...i.e., pointed at the bottom. My rig worked just fine.
