My husband and I just bought Lost Bay Resort on Cliff Lake in Ontario, Canada.
I am looking for people that have fished Cliff and share some of your stories.
Any help would be grateful.

Hi RosefliffLake, welcome to the forum. How do you mean 'just bought'? You bought a cabin there?
If so: congratulations. It looks like a wonderful place to me

Yes, the whole resort. I'm not sure if I can post a website on this board, don't want to get into any trouble.
Cliff Lake is 5700 acres of clear water and we also have 8 stained water portage lakes accessible by boat and portage.
If you want, send me an e-mail

You lucky Rose I am so happy for you. This must be like a dream come true, I am sure?
You can place websites here, don't worry - as long as it is in the course of conversation. Downright spamming is a completely different matter

I live in Israel, so it's a bit too far away to attend, unfortunately.
I also hope some members have experience with fishing at Cliff, because now I am curious to hear about that as well

I received your e-mail and I did respond, but when I hit send, I got a message that my response was undeliverable.
Thought I'd respond here. It's been tough lately getting time to post. We have 8 All Canada shows ahead of us starting Jan 4th and with the holidays approaching, time is limited.
Good idea about adding a link to this site, I will ask our website host about that.

Sorry about the e-mail problems Rose. If you'd ever want to respond by email I suggest using my personal e-mail address at ...... where I will most certainly receive everything being mailed to me.
May I wish you loads of success (and fun) with the upcoming events and hope that you will post here telling us all about it afterwards
(and a great, healthy and fun 2008)

Cliff Lake is the first place I ever fished in Canada...in 1959 (I was a young boy back then). My father took my brother, my Mom and me to fish for a week in July of that year. I have fond memories of wading the sandy area in front of the cabins and catching leopard frogs for a couple of fishermen who paid us a nickle each for the frogs. In those days the highway from Vermillion Bay was mostly gravel and the road down to the cabins was sand and we all wondered if we could ever climb out of there in Dad's 1959 Ford Fairlane 500. We caught perch from the dock and walleye, smallmouth, pike and even a musky or two though in those days of catch and kill there were not many muskies left. Happy to see you get the place and I wish you well and if your memories of Cliff lake are as vivid and pleasurable as mine you will have a lifetime of recollections.

That sounds like a great memory you have there sir. Would you consider going back and fish there again, or do you want to keep the memory as it is?

Good question about a return. It has been nearly 40 years since I last went up the Red Lake road and it does not look as though there will be a return in the future as there are just too many other places I want to see. My younger brother has fished the area off and on since those days and will be in there again this summer but his plans do not include Cliff Lake.
For me it is best to keep the memory and leave Cliff for everyone else to explore and enjoy.

Hello,
The fishing has been good. The largest so far, musky 46", northen 36", walleye 31", smallie 5 lbs, and lake trout 36".
Of course the weather messes things up now and again but overall the fishing is good.
We made many improvements and more to come.
Also, we are allowing kids 14+ under for free to help families offset some of the rising gas prices.
Happy fishing to all, Rose

Went to lost bay as a teen with my dad and have been there 6-8 times since, but not for at least 15 years. Remember catching very large dark walleyes in three corner lake and plenty of nice lakers and northern in one island. Am actually planing on going up next year. Send contact info. Thanks, AL

I assume you bought the resort from the drinkwalters? My Brother in law and I were up there in 2001 and 2002 again with my son. We were there both years in late July and just hammered the smallmouth bass. Most were not big, but you could catch 200 a day pretty easily. We brought our own bass boat up there. We also caught seveal musky with the biggest landed being 42 inches. We saw some much bigger. We found walleye by one of the island and had fresh walleye a couple evenings in our cabin. We bought the conservation license so we only kept what we could eat while there. We did catch alot of pike too, even though we never were targeting them. We never tried for lake trout, or whitefish. You could catch a ton of perch right off the dock, but they were covered in black grubs so we just threw them back in the lake. It was a great getaway and my son will never forget that trip. Just about anyone can catch fish there, but getting larger fish can be a challenge.

My father, brother, a friend, and I drove to Eagle Lake in 1945. The first time for qny of us. My father made the arrangements. We were taken out in two boats by guides, Art Kraft and Sunkie something the first day. The lodge was overbooked and we were asked if we would mind going to their Cliff Lake Lodge for the rest of our stay. In those days there was not rode to Cliff Lake. We drove to a lake where we loaded our gear in a boat and crossed the lake. there we debarked and boarded a wagon drawn by a horse and crossed the island to another lake. There we loaded into two other boats and crossed the lake to another island where we once more unloaded and walked to Cliff Lake. There we boarded two more boats and went across the lake to the lodge. We spent the next eight days fishing and eating and sleeping. We caught many walleyes, and some muskies. The last day we hit a school of lake trout. That was probably the best fishing trip I have ever been on. I would like to be able to go back to Cliff Lake at least once more in my life. I am told there is a road to the lake now. Problem is I probably could not afford it. Wish you well.
