I'm real new to all this... I just bought some sinking leader to start nymphing. It has about 18" of tippet at the end. I'm inclined simply to make a loop at the end there and just add more tippet for my rigs, but I'm not sure.

Hi.
Sinking Leader is OK,however most people, especially ones who tie their own Flies usually also use lead when tying the Fly & or Beads as well as Tungsten Beads to make the Bead Head Flies.
You can use sinking agents as well.
