Rarely do we get a chance to ice fish on our end of Superior, but this year has been an exception. Angles are venturing out onto the ice near Duluth Minnesota and are finding the salmon to be cooperative. In fact there have been numerous limit catches of the hungry coho salmon. Small jigs and crappie minnows seem to work best for the salmon, while smelt and large minnows are taking some trout neer the bottom in deeper water.(80 ft or deeper). The bad news is, the ice conditions are rapidly deteriating due to the warm weather and large ships that have begun their seasonal passages thru the ice.
