While I was at this timeshare/resort, I took a fly fishing course and
I'd really like to take up the sport. I'd appreciate it someone can recommend good books, videos and online resources for a beginner.

I bought from Amazon.com two books. The Orvis guide and one called "An
Idiot's Guide to Flyshishing". Being an idiot, it just seemed appropriate for me. It was much more informative than the Orvis guide.

The Curtis Creek Manifesto is also a good beginner book. I have thumbed through it at fly shops and almost bought it for my friend last year when he was starting out. Charlie Choc mentioned it the other day as a very good book for beginners when the subject came up.

Some on-line resources are: http://www.anglinguk.net/beginners/fly.htm

This trio of books by Tom Rosenbauer will get you off to an excellent start:

The Orvis Fly-Fishing Guide
The Orvis Guide To Reading Trout Streams
Prospecting for Trout

(the latter is now also available as an Orvis Guide in the new version - it's one of the best books I've ever read.)
All are available used on Amazon.

No problem. May fly fishing bring you everything in life that I wish I would have found but was too busy fishing to actually get. <g>

Best of luck on your quest!

Since you are in Edmonton, you could contact the local trout unlimited chapter http://www.freenet.edmonton.ab.ca/trout/ the Northern Lights flytiers club http://www.flytyers.org/ or the Edmonton Trout Fishers Club http://www.freenet.edmonton.ab.ca/edmtrout/index.html for starters
