Hey guys! How's it goin?

I just started fishing again for the first time in about 5 years and am having some problems. I bought an Eclipse pole with a 8lb. test line on it and I'm tryin to catch just about anything. I am fishing on the Columbia River in Portland, Oregon, and with the exception of three 12-15inch bass(small mouth I'm assuming), I can't seem to reel anything else in.

Today, hooked what appeared to be about a 30incher, judging from the jump. After about a 30 second battle, my line snapped.

Could this be a problem with the Test line? Drag settings? Knot tying? For Christ's sake, I'm tryin to bring in the biggun here and can't seem to keep any of them on.

I'm a college student and live in a house with 5 other guys and they heckle me when I come back with nothing. Someone help me!

Hi Schaffer09, welcome to the forum. I hope you will like it here

Yes. That could, indeed, be a problem with the Test line

Try some 10 lb. test trilene xl. Also you didn't say what lure you were using but on most lures I put one size larger hooks on it. I don't know why they put such small hooks.
