The easiest egg patterns I have ever tied are called "Easter eggs." I have caught a lot of fish on them over the years, especially in high, muddy water when the fish are spawning. Basically, all you do is lay out about six or seven strands of crystal flash on a hook, size 8 or 10. Then I just tie some orange yarn (I really like burnt orange) or chenille around the hook until it looks like a big egg. I know it sounds too simple and honestly, it doesn't really look like an egg. It looks like yarn wrapped around a hook, but it sure works. I think I found this pattern in a book with salmon flies, but it works awesome for trout. I have has days where they just slam these.
