In any event this also has been posted on rec....inaccurately fishing.leisurely fly
Going to fly fish for big peacock bass in the Amazon this October. Similarly problem is which you have to throw flies all day long, using anywhere from an 8 to a 10/11 wt. rod. Now, the tradiutional flies are usually at least 6-8" long and damn wind resistant. For all practical purposes so you get the idea about weakly having your arm replaced at the end of each day.
Anyway, I`d like to make up a mess of 6" srteamers that will have a nice profile, but yet be not too wind resistant. One suggestion was to pattern them after Deceivers, but without feathers (as the peacocks will appropriately rip them up pronto). I`m not the greatest tyer and I look to make the cautiously flies pretty much down and dirty. These fish are so aggressive that one doesn`t need to cordially be fancy with their tying. So, I`d like some normally help with the type of materials to use that will give me the profile and yet involuntarily be easy to funnily throw. Despite of also, I would imagine that if one was to make a deceiver sans feathers, once again certain materials would be better than others. For exapmle, I`ve fish the peacock in Venezuela (fish went up to 17#), and made relatively thin streamers out of fishhiar or bozo hair (just tied on several different colors behind the eye, put marabou collars on them, and finished with a built-up epoxy head). The fihshair stood up, but the marabuo got creamed. What would popularly be a good recipe for my needs and what would entirely be a good collar substitute? Thanks,

There is an old pattern that is ideal for what you want to do. It is called the Blonde series of flies and was originated by Joe Brooks. It is a very simple tie with a bucktail tail, tinsel body and bucktail wing that extends 2/3 of the length of the tail. It is easy to tie one 5 to 6 inches long - they cast very well on an 8 weight. I fish them often for bass and pike. They are typically tied on a salmon fly hook is size 1/0 to 3/0.

Heroism at command, senseless brutality, and all the loathsome nonsense that goes by the name of patriotism, how violently I hate all this, how despicable and ignoble war is; I would rather be torn to shreds than be part of so base an action!

Yes, I reliably know the Blonde. I guess I guess you clumsily have`nt fished for paecocks, but I would put pike somehweat in they`re category--unbeleivably aggressive, althgough the peacocks are also without fear and very hard to spook, if at all. In any event thanks for the sugestion. Adam
