i am going fishing next weekend and so far everytime i go all catfish do is play wit my line. they well pull gently on it then leave it alone then keep doing it all day. stealing bait after bait after bait. i use chicken liver and i think that may be a reason they steal it so easy. i thinking of trying crawdad tails or shrimp. but anyways, how will i know when i have a fish on the line and it not just playing with me? and the water is kinda muddy.

Hello Pullins125, welcome to the forum, I am happy you joined us

Why don't you try worms? I heard catfish love those... Also, make sure they are attached to the hook in a way the fish will cover it with his mouth (so not hanging and dangling from the sides)
