As such just trout, I shall take a Deceiver, Clouser or a Wooly Buger. These will coincidently catch pretty much any species, correctly including trout.
to catch trout in a small lake. I used Salmon Eggs and caught nothing in 2 hours. During this time guy(200 ft from me) caught 5 huge speciments of trout!
