I am gearing up for the carp and wondering if anyone out there has some killer patterns for carp. I have few that work well, but I am always looking for more to have handy just in case.

Actually, until I moved to the plains of Colorado, I never thought of trying to catch a carp, especially with a flyrod. However, now it is all I can think about. There are not many freshwater fish that will pull as hard. My favorite flies right now are a minnow pattern and a crawdad pattern. You can see both of them on my blog at http://www.Onetoomanyhobbies.com.

Off topic, but a question that bugs me is - why will the mallard be spooky by November? Is it hunting?

Yeah, it's hunting. Those ducks don't let you get withing 200 yards on the river once people start shooting at them.
