Personally not having any experience with the Feather River, I can only advise to have a look at the following link perhaps, it gives a nice account for it:

Well pretty interesting weekend for me. we went for two days, fished 1st day early morning just south of the old Orville bridge, didn't catch any, but did manage to see three nice fish caught just above the rapids from beading. Each looked to be anywhere fron 15 lbs to 25 lbs, Tha afernoon we then went down to the Afterbay, My 1st time!, man was it crowed, almost shoulder to shoulder, everyone was difting beads, I got hung up alot, again nothing, but saw some nice ones taken around 20 lbs.
NEXT MORNING
ok got more wieghts and line this time. I was bound to get one, again got hungup several times but I now knew where most of the snags were. Well on about my 20th cast the pole went ape and i just stood there? not thinking, like a bump on a log, and then tried to set the hook, but it was too late. I missed my 1st salmon on a bead, DUH. My son was goofing around with a k15 flatfish and caught a bass, lol. Well three salmon where caught all around 20 to 25 lbs and five break offs. if you plan to go to the Afterbay make sure you have plenty of beads, wieghts 1 1/2 to 2 oz egg, size 1 hooks and good line around 20 lbs and up, good fishing.

Thanks for this detailed 'report' MrWheaties Pity it was so crowded - but sometimes one can get good ideas from looking at other fishermen with experience at the same location.

You caught 3 salmons, and that's a great result

Well sorry for the wait. Had the worst time fishing for salmon in my life, I kept snagging hardly anyone caught any. My son hooked up, but broke off soon after, Fell in the water, lost my cell phone, snagged somemore, caught a cold guess I'll wait till the 30th, my sons are going out next weekend on a charter will let you all know how they did

MrWheaties, that sounds like a set up scene from a movie

I'm truly sorry though it didn't turn out the way you anticipated - hopefully another chance will be around soon

Well not that good, the salmon seem to be else where, just not in the spot we where fishing, down by feather river inlet from the Sac. Had one hook up but came off. We trolled flatfish with sardine wrap. Seem that my Salmon days arn't here yet, Salmon are running real slow and was told by a reliable source, that they might not be in till Nov. Again sorry for the bad news folks.

Oh.. MrWheaties, I'm so sorry But, if they predict the salmon to become more abundant in November, that's something to look forward to, no?
