My daughter caught this from a dock at the St. Johns river in Debary, Florida. Any idea what kind of fish this is?

It has teeth. Several bit through the line till I changed to a salt hook with a steel lead.

Good fight.

Just curious and passing by. The fish is a snakehead. They are strong and can live without water for long periods. Common in Asia. We would cook them and supposedly have healing properties. Hope this help.

Thanks Tina. I was not aware that these were in the Florida area. Heard the name before, but never seen one. I thought it some sort of mud fish or carp type bottom feeder. Wasn't aware you could eat them.

Hi Jim.
It's very suprising what's turning up everwhere,I known of a Species of Starfish which has turned up in Australia which has been brought here by the Oil,Coal & other Tankers in their Bilge Water.
When they arrive they pump out the Bilge Water, apparently these & possibly other nasties have hitched a ride, this could be how your Fish arrived on the scene.
It would be advisable to check with the local Marine people on this Fish, they might not known of it's existance in the local waters ???
