Any body got some night fishing tips to share? I have never fished at night and was wondering how different it would be to fishing by day, as far as gears and techniques and so on.

Hi.
The only real difference I've found ,believe me I've done some over the years, mostly Flyfishing & also Bait Fishing for Trout in Lakes,it pays to check out the area before dark so you know the area you fish.
It can sometimes become a pain when you have to change a Fly or Leader, thats where a good Torch or Flashlight comes in handy, especially when you have to manoeuvre fences, water holes etc,on the way back to you transport, prevent damage to you Rod from running into obstacles.
Also a wading stick helps, even though you might think you know the water it may be just a little deep.
I've found take just the absolute minimun gear you need otherwise you will eventually lose/leave something behind.
Good Luck as night Fishing is good fun & popular as you often hear see other people, brings back memories of an departed Irish Fishing mate, like myself enjoyed a drink, who whilst fishing drank a large flask of Whisky, layed down in the grass using a rock for a pillow, was observing the stars,so he said, along I came & nearly tripped over him.

I was on the lake well after dark. Anchored with my single white light on. I heard in the distance the sound of halyards slapping on a mast, not unusual on this, lake well known for a large fleet of sail boats. The sound of the sail boat was approaching but I could not see any running lights. Soon the sound of the halyards was very close but still no lights. I turned my flash light in the direction of the oncoming boat to see that the boat was less than 100 feet off. He layed over to starboard when my light hit him. I do not know how he missed my anchor light.

The lesson is, when fishing at night you might not be the only boat on the water.

So correct me if I am wrong, but know where you are going, take a flash light and take into account that you might trip over a mate or be run over by another boat
Sounds like my kinda fishing

LOL and as my son found out,, if you are shore fishing at night DO NOT GO TO SLEEP! He was catfishing from shore alone and fell asleep. When he woke up all his gear was gone except the chair he was sitting in. Somebody stole everything!. Better yet,, Fish with a friend. Also, I find a good light is one of those that you wear on your head. You can get some that can be aimed. Keeps your hands free while walking or rigging. Be sure to have a good bug repellent too. We take a coleman lantern along and give it a central spot. the bugs love it and it throws enough light for us.
