Hi leviticus, welcome to the site, unfortunately steel rods aren't used these days, they were originally built from excess supplies of tank whip aerials after the Second World War.
However a dealer or a second hand shop might buy it & the Reel, don't expect a great deal for it as Taiwonese & Chinese gear has flooded the market & its not expensive.
However Good quality modern gear in good condition still brings a fair price.
Good Luck.
