What is the appropriate rod weight for a Hardy Princess (from the
"lightweight" series)? Would it be too heavy for a 5 weight rod?

Hey, he asked for weight, not size. If he had asked for size that would be a different matter (a recommended 7 for a princess. A princess deserves at least 7, right?)

7. The lightweight is a 6 weight.

I know - suits me to a tee. Seriously, has anyone seen a fly fishing ani-gif that isn't? I'd love to replace that puppy, but can't find a better one.
The timing is way off, too. Either the one I have wasn't designed by a fly fisher, or was designed by an instructor to show improper form.

And bad aim. He keeps false casting _way_ over the rising fish.

The princess is big reel, made for the 7 wts. Having said that I use a princess with a crapload of backing and a 5DT line, sort of a "poor man's" larger arbor reel (I did this before Large arbors became widespread and less expensive models were available).

The reel is fairly light so weight is not a problem IMO, but the LRH
Lightweight and the Featherweight might be more appropriate.
When I read about the evils of drinking I gave up reading.
