am I right in assuming that shorter rods would mean shorter casts, there for better for brooks and streams?

Hi.
On Lakes people tend to use longer Spinning,Baitcasting & Fly Rods whereas on smaller waters they go for the shorter Rods,it's really not a matter of shorter Rods castng shorter distances & vise versa with longer Rods as long & short Rods have their applications in different situations.
Sometimes longer Rods are better on smaller streams, providing you have good access,clearance as you can keep away from the water better.
