:THIS IS A PICTURE OF GUMMY MINNOW'Any fish,
SALTWATER OR FRESHWATER WILL FIND IT HARD TO RESIST.Fished it for salmon,AND THE TAKES are savage.I know people will say ,that is not a fly but that is how you fish it.
They are not cheap, but tie your own and you will save a lot.The pictures are in the photo album.

I don't see a photo

(just this week I met an angler and his 'catch' that was caught on a gummy minnow (the catch was a cuttlefish)

Just been fly fishing two weeks on Los Roques in Venezuela. I have to say that the Gummy Minnow rocks. The best all round fly here, but that is not surprising with the number of real minnows in these waters. But fishing for bonefish on the shallow flats then I prefer something else.
On the photo you can see rthe real stuff and my primitive and fast "tied" imitation.

Are you saying that with the gummy ones you caught more fish than with the 'real thing'?

I said that the gummy minnow was the best all round FLY.
The real thing beats everything. Putting a real minnow on a hook will get you hooked up with a bonefish after app. 30 seconds. That soon gets boring, furthermore a lot of them will be hooked deeply and as it is strictly catch and release, it is not the way to go in my opinion.

When you are making the gummy minnow, make sure your fingers are damp or the sili skin will stick to your fingers, and when you let it go it will shrivel up and will not fish right.look up, gummy minnow orvis,it shows how to tie them.
IT took us a long time to get it right. Will post pictures how to make in future date.Instead of Putting green strip on back of gummy, just use waterproof marker and paint. To strengthen them up and keep them straight use 12lb line, flatten one end of line and tie down.super glue head of fly

Thanks for responding, Lars It makes sense yes, that a gummy minnow is better if it is only catch/release and the real ones are hooked deeply.

Irishman, I'm looking forward to those photos. And thanks for the explanation. Sounds nasty having them ripple up upon release.
