Dry days… will they ever end? The water levels are still very low on Florida’s east coast lagoon systems. Even though, fishing has been great as of late. It maybe caused by the lack of water bottling up the fish in deeper pockets or the diminishing of a large percentage of feeding grounds or the combination. The weather seems to be finally stabilizing and breaking into spring patterns. What does this mean for Florida anglers? This means the bite will be burning up like our wildfires.
If you are looking to get in a great day of fishing this spring season should be your shot at the show. So dust off the poles, reline the reels and charge up the batteries. If things keep heading in the same direction this spring will be one heck of an opening band for our summer fishing season.
Natural baits still hold supreme on my fishing charters with the best sellers being chunk mullet, blue crab, and dead shrimp. On the artificial front 4” Gulp shrimp on a 3/0 Daiichi copperhead has been fooling redfish and trout to strike.
My charters these last few weeks were highlighted by Ms. Larissa whose goal was to catch her first redfish and oh did she ever. After locating a school of monster bull reds it only took a few minutes to have one slam a 4” gulp shrimp and Larissa was in for the fishing battle of her life. Twenty minutes or so later she had her first redfish boat side a whopping 46 inch redfish.
Congrats Larissa on making your first redfish a catch of a lifetime and getting your Fish On! Florida Fisherman Style!
